Unexpected Delights

Wedding Photography 101:
by Lee Michael Harbinson

My first blog post!  Hope you like it...

Wedding Photography can be extremely stressful to a photographer who may just be breaking into the industry.  Over 5 years ago I began photographing weddings and still to this day I find it stressful.
After all this is one of the biggest days of your clients lives and they have put their trust in you to capture their special day.

If you are just starting out, I recommend a few practice runs.  If you know someone who is getting married and they have hired a professional photographer, ask the bride & groom to be if it would be ok with them if you followed them throughout the day.  Make sure not to get in the way of the professional photographer!  Being on the "side lines"your first time can provide a unique vantage point and some very interesting results.

A couple can spend months or even a year(s) planning their wedding.  As a Wedding Photographer it is your job to capture all the details they have worked so tirelessly on.  Make sure to have extra batteries, lots of memory cards & stay hydrated!  Create a check list/shot list before you go.  Study the list prior to the wedding in case you don't get a chance to view it during the wedding.  A wedding photographer is always on the go & you should expect to be on your feet & moving the entire day!

Speaking of moving your feet...I photographed a wedding last weekend and I saw this adorable flower girl rocking her feet.  The shoes, movement & brick patio reminded me of "The Wizard of Oz"

Sometimes the slightest movement(s) can turn an ordinary photo into an "Unexpected Delight".
